Angling Evolutions 2-Part Dry Fly Treatment System
The new Fish Pimp Shake-N-Float fly dryer and floatant systems looks very promising. This is the deal: it is a canister that hangs on your lanyard. The canister has two side-by-side chambers, one filled with fly dryer and the other with floatant. The top of the canister twist. You put your fly into the canister so that the contents of chamber 1 flows in and out of the cap. Give your fly a shake and then twist the cap 180 degrees to access the contents of chamber 2 which contains floatant. Shake and you are good to go. The leader sits in a notch and does not get smashed.

Fishing Nets By Sam Lacina
To see the most awesome, masterfully crafted fishing nets ever created go to http://www.flyfishingnets.net/. I first met Sam at the 2009 FFF Conclave. He was a student in one of my classes. Sam is not only a super fly tyer, but he is a master artisan, creating some of the most wonderful works of art with wood. He made a custom net for United Fly Tyers and it was beyond cool and beautiful. The nets are not only individual works of art, but are made to be used.

Fish Pimp Strike Indicators
Angling Evolutions, makers of Fish Pimps strike indicators, announced some modifications in their great product. I had the chance to chat with Quentin Hoffpauir, chief pimp, at The Fly Fishing Show about these changes. He indicated that the new model has an improved aerodynamic surface (dimples...like on a golf ball) which helps it sail through the air with less friction. Also leader gripping power is improved with more macho surgical tubing to hold the indicator (pimp) firmly against the leader. Soon their new website will be up and running at: http://www.fishpimpco.com/.

Marc Petitjean
From time to time I come across some very good fly tying swag. When this happens, it's important to share the "find." So, you have heard of Marc Petitjean of Switzerland. An excellent tyer, winner of awards and designer of ingenious tying tools. I had a chance to watch him in action at The Fly Fishing Show and chat with him. I was amazed to learn that most of the tools are handmade (think Swiss watches) and the materials are hand selected. I found the CDC to be excellent and his 100% silk tying thread is wonderful, coming in 4 subtle colors: cream, grey, olive and black. What I am now into is using the split thread dubbing technique. View Marc on www.youtube.com/marcpetitjean, or go to his website at http://www.petitjean.com/. I warn you that his tools and materials are expensive, but worth the extra dough.

Two Of My Favorite Things
What? Yes, two of my favorite things. First, coffee. Those who know me are aware of my major coffee Jones. Second, squirrel. That is for fly tying. Nothing beats a nice grey squirrel pelt. Love the tail. Love the under fur. Love the spiky guard hair. Give me a squirrel and a pot (make that urn) of coffee and I am good to tye flies all day.

Trout Chow Fly
Many have asked if I have a recommendation for a fly that looks like those gnarly, liver-colored pellets that are fed to trout in hatcheries. After I got past the idea of going for hatchery fish that were just sprung from prison, I came up with this little fella. Tye it with or without weight...some trout chow floats, while other brands sink. I like the unweighted version as it hangs in the water column nicely.
